Dawson Collegeis a preparatory college located conveniently on the western end of Montréal’s downtown core. The largest English-language college in Québec's CÉGEP system, Dawson has approximately 11,000 pre-university and continuing education students, and nearly 50 different fields of study. The main structure of the college is a former convent, its congregation chamber now serving as part of the library. The building sits on an 11-acre campus featuring quiet grassy areas, many trees, and a tranquil Peace Garden for quiet recuperation and meditation. The college acknowledges that the land occupied by its campus is the traditional territory of the Kanien’keha:ka (Mohawk), a place which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst nations.
Founded in 1968, Dawson is the first English-language college in Quebec's "Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel" (CEGEP) system, which offers free pre-university and career/technical programs to Quebec residents. A course of study at one of Quebec’s CEGEPs is required of students wishing to attend university. At Dawson, pre-university programs include Science; Fine Arts; Social Science; and Liberal Arts. Dawson’s ALC (Arts, Literature, Culture) program students can focus their studies in Arts and Culture, Cinema/Video/Communications, Languages, Literature, or the Visual Arts. Career/Technical programs at Dawson include Animation, Graphic Design, Professional Photography, Professional Theatre, Nursing, Radiation Oncology and Interior Design.
There are many students, faculty, and staff at Dawson who would benefit from, and be enthusiastic about, attending, participating in, or helping out with the 9th Slayage Conference on the Whedonverses.
